Have to turn the key or jiggle the shit lever to start the car
A couple of possibilities come to mind. First, do you have a lot of keys on the same ring as the ignition key? The extra weight can mess up the ignition switch. Second, you may have a faulty or misadjusted neutral safety switch, which normally prevents the vehicle from starting in gear.

Just a guess,
With the console mounted shift lever, something fell into it and is preventing it from going all the way into park.
You have a pretty strong opinion of that lever, eh Vinnie
