Yes, the lubricating oil for diesel engines is different from the oil for gasoline engines.
However, there are several different diesel oil specifications.
If you take a look at your Owner’s Manual, it will state the specification that is required for a Mercedes diesel.

Not only is there special oil for diesel engines there is a specific oil for Mercedes diesels. Diesel oil for a Ford or VW may not meet the same specifications as diesel oil for a Mercedes. Check your owner’s manual for exactly what you need.
