My car makes a strange rattling noise, possibly coming from the rear brakes, when I accelerate or coast. The sound goes away when I initiate the brakes. This started after I got a break job, pads, and rotors, and I took it back to the mechanic afterwards. The mechanic found no structural issues, said everything is normal, lubed and tightened whatever is in the area, and the sound went away for around 6-8 weeks but is now back. I have a video with sound that I can upload if there is a place for this.
Welcome to the forum…
Since you paid someone to do your brakes, I am assuming you are not a DIYer or able for whatever reason to DIY, nothing wrong with either…
1st thing I would check is the lug nut torque…
You probably need to take the vehicle to a different shop to be checked out… You may have to pay a small fee for the check, but better to be safe than sorry…
Sorry you are having this issue…
My guess, its not the brakes. Ask your shop if the sound may be coming from a faulty catalytic converter.
Budget price brake pads may not come with new anti-rattle clips. If the anti-rattle clips are missing, damaged or worn, the brake pads will rattle on rough pavement. If the rattle stops when the brake is applied, the noise might be from the brake pads.
