2011 Hyundai Sonata - Broken door lock

door lock doesn’t work on passenger side.

Pretty common problem on most makes sporting electric door locks. You can see for yourself by searching this forum for what other’s have posted about that topic , search link upper right this page. I expect you already know you’ll need to find a Hyundai experienced shop to take a look what’s causing it. If you feel lucky, take a look at the driver’s door hinge area. Open the door to see it. There’s should be a bundle of wires that passes from the inside of the door to the car’s body. Do the wires look ok? Or do they look all twisted and / or the insulation has worn off?

With the limited info you gave it could be …
The switch on the passenger door.
The master switch on the driver’s door
A door lock actuator
Wiring problem
A bad connection
And I will also leave this bit of info…

I’ve owned 6 cars with electric door locks, and I never had even one instance of a problem with them. That included up to 12 years/145k miles of use.

Just stop . Your constant ranting about the features on vehicles that people want and hardly ever cause problems has worn out its welcome.

Not to mention that upper right search link is all but worthless…

As mentioned by W-W, I am going to be testing the switches and the actuator for power (signal) and ground before I get into chasing broke wires, I have replaced hundreds of switches and actuators, rarely have a broken wire between the door and vehicle, can/does it happen, yes, but not nearly as often in general… I don’t think George has ever even had power door locks, much less worked on them…

I have a 1993 Chevy Truck that still has the working power windows and door locks…

There’s no Hyundai-specific knowledge required to diagnose this, imo

I bet I and all the other professional mechanics on this forum could figure it out in a reasonable amount of time . . . without being a Hyundai expert

Surprising to hear. Does everyone posting here concur with that comment? I find the forum search link to be pretty useful myself.

Yes, we all concur

If you half a** paid attention to what we are saying instead of going for the highest post count even though very little to NO experience with which you are talking about most of the time, then you would have heard/read many times others saying the same thing, matter a fact, I got it from another member, just hoping you will one day learn how to take a hint, I mean miracles do happen…
Use your beloved search link thingy and look it up… lol

And sorry to say, but a lot of members simply will not get involved in the pettiness involved with you asking questions like this one…

Now back to my 600+ page mind numbing owners manual…

98% chance the door lock actuator has failed, no reason to begin with fear of broken wires.

Rock Auto offers replacement right front door latches for that car from 4 different manufactures, that give you an idea of how common door lock actuator failures are.

I rarely get anything I’m looking for when I use the search function. It seems to me that the red box warning me that my post is similar to other recent ones is related to the search function. Its recommendations are never on point.

OK this is off topic . Not a reasonable thought but I really don’t like the word Concur . Using the word agree just sounds better to me .

One of my daughters married into a family like that! Well, at least they have a 250 YO farm but not the rest of the stuff. They are land rich but don’t have excess money. They spend all their money fixing the house. Grandma paid for a new copper roof a few years ago. I think it was a couple hundred thou. They have to do that to get the tax advantages do the historic designation. I think she upgraded to plumbing too. My son in law is already planning on replacing the electrical service and he thinks it should be about $150,000-ish. No staff and really nice people. I’m glad we’re family now. Grandma drives an old Lexus LS 400 and my SIL’s father drives an older Tundra. The last big purchase he made was a John Deere tractor, about $60,000 new.

Apples to oranges compassion… But I was referring to the kind of money movies are made of… Like the Vanderbilts when they still lived in the Biltmore Estate etc…

Kind of funny you mentioning the Lexus LS 400, back around 2017ish Vince Gill came in to my shop with a flat tire on his way to the studio and was driving an older Lexus/Infinity (big car), he grabbed his guitar out of the trunk and sat down with the rest of the customers in the waiting area, very nice guy…

Do you think the search feature should be eliminated then? If the feature adds no value to the folks posting here, the money spent to keep it up to date, data storage fees etc, could be applied elsewhere. Do you recommend to the Car Talk website staff to eliminate the search feature?

If people want to use that feature that is their choice . Why don’t you just stop telling people to use it . If the people who run this Forum want it fine .

The search tool is a Discourse platform feature, it does not require maintenance from the Car Talk website staff, if there is one.

I expect the link can still be easily eliminated . If that link is providing nothing useful, the site could be decluttered by removing.

On most forums it takes an Admin to make changes, Mods can not make changes like that, so the only 2 Mods we have on here probably have no way of removing anything… Also it does not cost anything to have or use it, it is simply part of the forum, if you want to use it fine, if you don’t then don’t…

Just stop wigging out about it and move on…
