My son in law has a 2010 Corolla, the last two Purolater cartridges he took off were crushed. I checked the filter number and it appears to be correct. I advised him to buy his next filter from the Toyota dealer, They are actually cheaper than the parts stores. Has anyone heard of this happening?
I have, but I cannot remember the details. Sorry. Just thought I’d confirm for you that his experience is not unique.
He also might want to stop by the parts store and compare an OEM replacement cartridge to the Purolator cartridge. The difference just might be obvious.

“Has anyone heard of this happening?”
My answer to you is yes, as far as price goes
Genuine Toyota oil filters/cartridges are cheaper at the dealer, versus a decent part at autozone, o’reilly, etc.
By decent, I mean Wix, fram, ac delco, motorcraft, etc.
I do not mean a $2 store brand filter
I have an 09 Corolla and have used Purolator cartridges with out any trouble. Make sure that you remove the old O ring and replace with the one that comes with the new filter.
