Car repair cost has definitely gone through the roof. You aren’t alone w/this problem. I expect many of the volunteers here do so b/c they want to help. They also realize car-repair cost has become too much of a burden on working class families. Unfortunately, like many of today’s problems, this problem has no good solution. About the only thing OP can do is drop by a dealership service dept at a time they aren’t busy and ask if there’s any recalls or customer support programs available. Suggest to not get your hopes up, seems pretty unlikely for a 13 year old car. On the other hand, problematic air bags that age & even older are still be replaced under warranty. So no harm to ask. The worse they can say is “no”.

Talk to a few Local church’s…
Pick up more hours at work
Or get a 2nd even 3rd job…
Some jobs will advance money…
Donate Plasma for Money…
Payday loan (sharks)…
Sell or Pawn your TV, computer, jewelry…

Get creative and think outside the box…
Sorry you are having to deal with this… Good luck…
You can live with out internet and cable TV etc… heck I even remember a time not having a cell phone… lol

The car is 13 years old. Why would/should anyone pick up your expenses? It costs money to operate a car, sometimes a new engine is part of those costs.

Go to a parts store, and buy a can of this.

Add it to the oil. And if it doesn’t stop the oil burning, it may slow it down.

Tester

Please give us some perspective

How many miles do you drive before having to add a quart?

I’d sell it and move on.

Miles per quart would be the first thing to know, like @db4690 said. 1000? Keep driving and adding. 100? Try @Tester 's recommendation.

Or he could just a new small block and have a shop repair it for around 6k.

Its better than buying something for the same price that isn’t as reliable.

Short block???

Nothing is my fault if I can find someone else to blame it on. Missing is oil change and maintenance history. Of all the cars I’ve owned only the diesel developed an oil consumption issue. When it was down to 300 miles per quart, it developed a knock and I invested $2000 in a new engine. Never had a oroblem with any other car. When the 3 year, 4 year, or 5 year drive train warranty is up, it is all on the owners dime.

Well the OP hasn’t returned to the discussion but we don’t even know what the oil consumption rate is for the engine in question.

Yep another drive by never to be seen again.
