2009 Tacoma - drive shaft "yoke"

On 6/13/16 Birdwell Auto removed driveshaft and lubricated front slip yoke with Toyota transmission fluid. Grease was not used due to concern it may contaminate the transmission. The “push from behind” sensation occurred two or three times after the lubrication however that’s been it. I drove the truck to WI and back (AZ) without a problem. The mystery “push from behind” is gone hopefully for good. Seems the lubrication did the job!! Thanks to Jack and his mechanics at Birdwell Auto.

That’s a good one. Ignorance and fear of the unknown…

is gone hopefully for good

Unlikely. Even grease does not last forever but trans fluid is so thin it’s very likely to return far sooner than if they had cleaned the splines and used a moly grease (any low temp equivalent).

At least now you know what the problem is and can get it fixed again when/if it returns…

This is a known issue with the Tacoma or 4Runner. But it’s really caused from neglect. As long as you periodically grease the zero for the yolk then you’ll never experience this problem.
