I previously owned a 97 Jeep Cherokee and put 175,000 miles on it and had almost no maintenance problems. Now I have a 2009 Jeep Patriot with about 50,000 miles. I have replaced an ABS wheel speed sensor 3 times and now the ABS control module and pump. This ABS control module and pump cost $1130 to replace at the local Jeep dealer. They say the Jeep Patriot doesn’t have any known ABS problems. I wonder if there is a way to find out the maintenance history of the ABS system for my vehicle.
Check Consumer Reports and it will show what areas are prone to failure for each year and model. My Dodge Intrepid won awards when I bought it, but the tranny and torque converter kept failing. CR showed that Intrepids had crap trannies. Wish I had looked there first.
