Dies with no warning then will turn over but not start let it set a few hrs starts up again
Check your crankshaft position sensor.

Yes, they can fail intermittently especially when hot. If when it’s cranking but starting, you can test and find a no-spark or very weak spark condition, that’s more evidence of a failed CPS.
