I have a 2009 Ford Escape, and I been hearing a subtle grinding noise from the engine, for example when it’s in like 2nd or 3rd gear and I let go of the throttle, or when I’m accelerating and the car is shifting into 2nd , also it makes the grinding sound while reversing

You may just be hearing a heat shield rattling.
Start the engine… put it in drive…hold the brake on hard…and apply the accelerator …are you able to recreate the same noise you were worrying about by doing this?

yea, I just tried, didn’t replicate the noise, but it doesn’t sound like it would be a heat shied either
