My car just started making a grinding noise when accelerating. It does not make it while maintaining a constant speed or revving the engine in neutral. I never had this problem before and I am at a loss to explain it. Any ideas? Car is 1995 Camry for what that is worth.
I would guess you most likely have a bad motor mount.

Turns out it was a heat shield that was loose and resting on the muffler. There was vibration upon acceleration that did not happen at any other time and that was causing the noise. Lucky for me because the mechanic who figured it out fixed it free of charge.
