2009 Audi A3 Shifting Issue

Hi Guys and Gals!

I recently purchased a 2009 Audi A3 with the 2.0T engine and six speed dual clutch transmission. It’s having an issue where after driving for a while when downshifting from 3rd to 2nd gear, the RPMs will fluctuate. It will fluctuate by a few hundred RPMs and cause the car to rock back and forth. So far haven’t done anything to the car, just want to get an idea what it could be.

Could be your clutch slipping. To test it, start the engines, press the clutch pedal all the way down put the gearshift in first gear then remove your foot off the clutch pedal.Your car should stall.right away.If it does not, your clutch is worned out.

This vehicle doesn’t have a clutch pedal, because it doesn’t have a conventional manual transmission. It has a dual-clutch transmission, which is more or less an automated manual trans.

These dual-clutch transmissions operate essentially like an automatic transmission. There is no clutch pedal.

does it do it when not using the manual paddle shifters?

Is there any record of when the last time the transmission fluid was serviced?

The problem only occurs when it’s in the automatic mode.

if its only doing it in automatic mode it could be a tranny sensor. I would try to find out if there are any tranny codes. but probably best to bring it to a transmission shop

… but NOT to a chain-run trans shop!
