Jeep dealer says mopar stopped making pcm for 08 Cherokee so what to do now after having it towed in for not starting
The engine not starting isn’t a good reason to replace the pcm, suggest further testing. You are also welcome to describe you symptoms for more ideas here. Tell us as much as you know about the Jeep’s configuration, engine, transmission, any recent shop work, emissions testing, etc. By “not starting”, do you mean it won’t crank the engine? Or it cranks ok but just keeps cranking, won’t catch and run?
As far as sourcing a replacement pcm, … that’s a tough one. hmmm … I guess if I had that problem I’d surf over to Summit Racing’s website to see if they offer something. Beyond that, you may be able to find a used one at Jeep specific forums, auto parts recyclers, etc. Be aware that there may be software incompatibilities between a used pcm and the rest of the software already in your Jeep that will have to be resolved. pcm problems, very frustrating. Best of luck.
I am guessing you mean 2008 Grand Cherokee since the Cherokee was not made from 2002 - 2013 when the Liberty took it’s place in 2003…
And yes, Jeeps were/are known for having PCM issues…
Anyway, if it is a bad PCM, Flagship One has them for around $291, give them your vehicles VIN and money, and they send you a basically plug n play PCM for your vehicle, and you even get to keep your old PCM…
Lots of places sell PCM’s out there you can buy…
BTW, a 16yo vehicle does not have to go to the dealer for repairs…
Usually when a mechanic starts wanting to “replace the computer”, it means he’s out of ideas.
In this case… I’d say the Jeep dealer doesn’t want to work on your 16 year old Jeep, period. I’m sure the Sales department would happily sell you a new one, though…
