when the ball joint was making noise did you not think you should have it looked at? Or did you hit a really large pothole? OR both?

did it rust out? Some years of Escapes were having a sever issue with rust.

In general if you have to ask how to fix a general part like that, the answer is “take it to a good local mechanic.”

I don’t think an LCA replacement is a good novice project.

How do you fix it? You buy a new one and replace it. Get an alignment afterwards.

Like with any other repair job, one buys a good-quality part, and uses it to replace the broken part.
Hopefully the OP didn’t think that he could weld that LCA back together.
