2008 Chevrolet Cobalt - Key stuck!

Car has been sitting for close to a year, charged battery up, tried to start with no luck, then key will not release from ignition. Driver door was open when we tried to start. Cannot get key out at all.

Patti , the mechanics who visit this site need a little more information. Did the engine actually turn and just not start running on its own ? Did nothing happen ? Also that fuel in the vehicle is probably so bad the thing might not run until you have fresh fuel . You might try a new battery or use a jumper pack and see what happens.

The battery is dead. Did you charge the battery for at least 8 hours? If so you may need to replace the battery, also inspect the connections for corrosion.

Car made no noise when trying to start. Can’ t get to battery which is in trunk. This car has a terminal under hood to use for charging or jumping. Did not think about the old gas, but it should at least turnover. Thank you.

Can’t you open the trunk while the battery charger is connected?

Key is stuck in ignition.

When the battery is dead you will not be able to turn the ignition to the lock position to remove the key. Connect the battery charger, then remove the key.

I will try that as well. Thank you.

If you can get to the backseat of the car from inside… I believe the rear seats fold down on this car. If so, you can access the truck that way. There may be a glow in the dark release handle on the inside of the trunk lid you can use to open the trunk.

Won’t work. The hole is too small to crawl though. The battery is directly below the back wall of the trunk between the license plate holder and the right rear lights.
