2007 Trailblazer steering issues

By that logic, why not replace the transmission too? :grinning: Seriously tho- these rads are not known for problems. The lines rust out because of the way they chose to restrain them with tight fitting rubber isolators. Iā€™ve owned three of these TBs and first thing I do is remove these mounting blocks, POR15 the lines where they were rusting and install my own mounts that allow drainage and drying out.

Probably not something they do, you can always call them and askā€¦

So question. I called a transmission garage but they could not properly quote me as they donā€™t know how many lines my Trailblazer has. Today, I got into my car which I have not used in weeks and the oil light came on. I checked the oil level and it seemed on the mark. But I am also unsure of how low the oil is to cause the light to be on. I do plan on buying some oil but I donā€™t want to overfill it. But it seems for me to get a proper quote, I need to bring the car to the shop. Question is, should I risk putting at least 5QT of oil? my truck takes 7. I had topped it it purple power when I did an oil change but for now, I would need to buy something cheaper since it will leak. But I tried to find info on how many lines this has and I am seeing different numbers. Can someone give me an exact number as well? I also was told by a garage that its the oil cooling line and not tranny but that seemed confusing and I didnā€™t believe them.

As far as the radiator goesā€¦I just want to fix the lines just so I can go to my appointments and physical therapy since I have surgery next week. I want to save for another car but I need something to at least get me through the next 14 months at least.

No. Absolutely not. Check the oil level using the dipstick and only add some if it is below the low mark.

I checked the dipstick levels and it seems there is fluid there. I just donā€™t like the style of this particular dipstick since there are not markings and it is tiny. But the oil light is still on

Please post a picture of the oil light you are asking aboutā€¦

Is it amber or RED??

Also show us a picture of the dipstick and point with a pen or something small where the oil level isā€¦

If the oil on the dipstick is in the safe zone, do not add any oil. Itā€™s as simple as that.

Hereā€™s what mine have all looked like:

The two raised lines that appear lighter color are the high and low marks. The hatching in between helps to see the oil level. I agree itā€™s not the best dipstick end I have ever had but it works OK once you get used to it.

There are 4 transmission lines to the radiator; two for each input/output segment. You could just replace the one that is leaking but considering the cost, it is probably best to get the complete set. Some places like AZ sell them as an assembly so a single line set per input/output. A trans shop could not figure out how many lines there are? Concerning. You can look on Rockauto or any other parts site to see that.

it is amber with a wrench on it.

I just looked on page 212 of your owner manal

That particular indicator is telling you itā€™s time for an oil and filter service

well I used purple power oil with oil filter. It stated that oil would not need to be changed for a year. I have actually been using this oil since 2020. This is the first time it has indicated the light since Iā€™ve have been using this oil. The oil was changed late June of this year. Also, since then I have driven the car less than 650 miles total. I mean I donā€™t mind changing the oil and filter, but I just want to be knowledgeable of this

I checked the dipstick yesterday and oil was above the second line. Actually touching the gray ring the picture. So since it does have 4 I at least know now that any tranny garage I call and they give me an estimate, I would pay the higher end of the cost if they ask how many lines there are. The last place I called said they do all of them they wonā€™t just single out one.

That implies someone didnā€™t reset the service indicator

Wouldnā€™t the indicator turn off automatically after each change?

Is there a method to turn off this indicator?

To be on the safe side, should I go ahead and get a new oil change?

No

Yes!

  1. Turn the ignition to run (one position before starting engine).
  2. Immediately after Step 1, press and release the gas pedal 3 times within 5 seconds.
  3. If the Change Oil Soon light flashes the system is resetting.
  4. Turn the ignition off and then start the engine to verify the indicator has been reset

I will do this later on.

As I stated earlier, would it be wise to do a fresh oil change though? I assume since the light came on the dash, something caused it to come on. Would it be fine to do that? or should I continue on with the oil that is currently there and just keep a closer eye on it?

After 2.5 months/650 miles?
No

That is what I would advise.

Edited to add:
I hope that youā€™re changing your oil on the basis of elapsed time, rather than on the basis of odometer mileage. It appears that you drive only a bit more than 3k miles per year. With that type of driving, I would change the oil every 6 months.

The Trailblazer, like most GM products, uses a fairly sophisticated method to determine when to signal an oil change is needed. It is based on usage and environmental factors. The only thing it does not know, is when the oil was last changed. Whomever does that service needs to follow the procedure VDCdriver posted above to reset the OLM.

If you have the DLC display, you can look at the OLM % remaining.

Even if the oil states that it can be changed yearly instead of 6 months?

I donā€™t mind reverting to 6 months of oil changing, I just figured due to the light driving I do, this particular oil I was using which is advertising as being yearly for changes, would have fit me better.
