WHY IS MY PT CRUISER MAKING A CLUNKING NOISE UP FRONT UNDERNEATH. MECHANICS SAY THEY CAN’T FIND WHY–STRUTS SEEM OK.
Probably the sway bar bushings. Have them checked. If they are just worn, the repair bill isn’t too bad. However if the sway bar has started to get cut by the bushing holders, that adds about another $250 for the cost of a new sway bar. Guess how I know?
I’d also check the ball joints.

Pt Cruisers are know for their control arm bushings failing, although it would be fairly easy for a mechanic to see this in an inspection.
