I’m inheriting my grandparents 2007 Taurus. 49k miles. Any problem areas I should be aware of?
Maintenance is your friend. At this age and mileage you need to do a transmission fluid drain and fill. Coolant same, drain and fill. Brake fluid changed. And of course regular oil&filter changes.
Run the VIN for recalls, this year probably had the Takata airbags, if so hopefully your grandparents had the recall performed. If not, take it in, likewise for any other recalls—replacement/repair is free on recalls.
Unless you know a lot about its history (are the grandparents still living? if so, ask them), I’d get it to a trusted mechanic to do everything @Purebred mentioned, plus have the mechanic give the car a good once over for any other issues, like worn brakes or too-old (more than 10 years, maybe less) tires.
I’d give it away to someone you don’t like
A 2007 Taurus with only 49K miles on it for free!
Better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick!

I think that car should work out pretty good for you. I mean if you like its configuration. One time I was about to inherit a Taurus with an automatic, and I didn’t want a car with an automatic, even for free. Especially given the cost of re-registering in California from another state. I squirmed my way out of that one. somebody else go it … lol … Get a shop to do a general inspection and get all the routine maintenance up to date. You should be good to go.
