I recently took my car to the Ford dealer because of a rotational thumping in the front end. I was diagnosed about as bad as possible - a bad power transfer unit. Although they told me the cost of the part is $2262, it is also obsolete. Which means a reman or used unit. What is my best alternative. Vehicle only has 36K miles and is in very nice shape otherwise.
Remanufactured unit for sure. A used unit is a complete gamble with a large labor cost.
You might want to get a second opinion . . .
When you go in for the second opinion, do NOT mention the other shop or the “power transfer unit”
Just see what conclusion they arrive at
