Sorry to here about your situation, but as unfortunate as it is, the only thing we can do is recommend to get help as posted above.. I can only add, talk to your local church(s) also, a lot of them (bigger ones) are able to or know who can help out…

As a follow on to the two posts above:

There are charities that will repair donated cars and give them to people in need. I’m not sure what charities do this in your area. Here’s one in Maryland. They don’t show a branch in Texas, but it gives you an idea of what they might require of you to get a donated and repaired vehicle.

You have standing water in footwell? You need to remove water. Shop vac. Towels. Can you bend over?

As for the Freestyle, there may be a vo-tech educational program somewhere near you. Many of these will work on cars for free (other than parts, I’d imagine) as part of educating the kids in the program. It can’t hurt to look/ask around.

One of the other places to contact (in fact, the first one that should be contacted, IMO) is her county’s Office of Social Services. A trained social worker can direct the OP to all of the relevant local charities, in addition to… probably… being able to offer direct financial assistance.

If her county doesn’t have such an office, I suggest contacting Catholic Charities. You don’t have to be of that faith in order to receive help from them. When I worked for my state’s Child Protective Agency, we worked hand-in-hand with Catholic Charities for some of the services that were needed by our clients.
