2006 Toyota Sienna - Timing belt

You would have to take the engine apart to know this. For example, when I had the engine in my Caravan disassembled, I noticed that the pistons are dished downward, and the valves do not protrude past the bottom of the cylinder head at any time. The “margin of error” is approximately equal to the thickness of a dime and a quarter.

Yep. Some owners manuals have a chart with years/mileage headings, so it’s not explicitly clear… until you read the whole manual.

Yes, I would get the entire kit. It comes with timing belt, idler, tensioner bearing, water pump, as well as camshaft and crank seals. Those extra parts may be probably years from failing, but they’ll just have to repeat all that labor if one does.

Though the mech argued, I had him replace the external serpentine belt at the same time. It’s no fun to have that snap on a cold rainy night, miles from home. It’s is already off, so out it went. Now you are good for another 10 years of no worries from those parts.
