Rocker panels rust out, not uncommon. In as much as your Grand Prix is unibody the entire underside inspected, either an independent mechanic or independent body shop should be able to evaluate your car.

The replacement parts aren’t usually super expensive, but depending on the car and what exactly needs to be done this job can be quite labor intensive. For a 2006 GP? hmmm … I expect you are looking in the $1000-$3000 range, parts and labor. Hopefully it will be the lower end of that range.

If the car failed safety inspection because of the rusted rocker panels, the damage must be pretty severe. It may not be cost-effective to repair.
