2006 Infiniti QX56 chokeswhen accelerating on the highway

While driving at 75 MPH for over two hours as I accelerate to pass a car my car begins to decelerate and seems to choke. If I give more gas it gets worse. If I floor it, there is a loud thump sensation that feels like the front in pulled away and the back end popped into place like a rubber band. Sometimes the car decelerates so low that I’m forced pull over and shut the car off. After about a 5-10 minute rest the car drives fine for about another 1-2 hours.
