A common problem with ford trucks around your year is a faulty gas fuel pump driver module.

but other things can cause your problem. just to give a few.
A faulty fuel pump or fuel pump relay heating up and shutting off. when it cools it will work again.
a dirty fuel filter will cut fuel off. after it sits for a little while some of the dirt will fall off filter and will let you start the truck again for a little while until it clogs again.
do you have a check engine light on? if so, post the codes here and maybe someone here can help you more. most Autoparts stores will scan your truck for free.
