Once or twice a week, I will start my PT Cruiser (2005, 40K miles) and the oil warning light will remain on. When that happens, I immediately turn off the engine and restart. The oil warning light goes off and the car runs normally. Oil level is OK. So I would guess the oil pressure sensor or sending unit is bad. Is this a DIY repair or one for the shop? Could it be some other electrical malfunction? Is this a known issue with PTs that may indicate more serious problems?
I’d start by having it tested with a real oil pressure gauge. After that you’ll know if its a bad sensor or an internal engine problem.
