2005 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD - This filter?

Can I use a Fram ph5 oil filter on my 05 Chevy 2500 6.0

Welcome to the forum…

Your vehicle calls for a PH 3506 (short filter), or PH 3675 (long filter)

They have the same threads but the diameter is way different and will not seal up properly or at all, or flow correctly…
PH5 Outside Diameter is 3.688 in
PH 3506 Outside Diameter is 3 in

Bigger question is, why are you asking??

Good question. I’ll venture a guess. OP has a stash of the PH5’s, probably bought for a vehicle they no longer have. OP could put them out at the curb, somebody in the neighborhood can probably use them. I find oil filters that fit my Corolla or Truck placed at the curb occasionally.

You will use a filter that you find on the side of the road (curb) on both your vehicles, that you have NO history on, don’t know why they are out there, but you don’t add oil to a new filter cause it will not be filtered before going through the bearings??? Think about that logic for a minute… lol

Yes, as long as it is the correct part and brand/model diy’er has used successfully before, & appears new and unused in the original box. Neighbors likely had it on the garage shelf for their now sold car, & could have just thrown it in the garbage, but instead they thought of others, & put it there on the curb b/c they want someone to use it, not let it go to waste. Just my opinion is all. If a diy’er thinks it best to let it sit on the curb, not pick it up and use it for the their own car, that works for me.
