My 2004 Chrysler Sebring with 128K miles is making a loud whirring noise when I accelerate. It does not happen when I break, coast or am idle. I live in a city and potholes are a way of life. I got four new tires in November and had the alignment checked and fixed at the time. Any suggestions or ideas as to what it could be?
Cracked exhaust manifold?
If it has the 2.7 liter engine what you might be hearing is the timing chain rubbing against the timing chain cover.
Open the hood, and while someone revs the engine listen if the noise is coming from the front of the engine.
