2004 Chevy Monte Carlo SS

Lately when I turn my steering wheel to far the traction activated light comes on. Today when I got in my car to run a 1/2 mile to the store I turned it on and after all the reg. bells and whistles went off one of the warning lights came on and said that there was a problem with my trac control, turned it off and told me it needed to be serviced. At the same time my ABS light came on and stayed on all the way to the store. I shut the car off and went in got my stuff, came back out turned the car on and it was perfectly fine.

My question is…Is this something that I need to worry about right away? Is it serious? I need to know, I don’t want to run my child or anyone else for that matter in a car that is in need of help.

ABS and traction control tend to use the same sensors. With both systems acting up, there is NO DANGER that the car will not stop, or will jump into traffic unexpectedly. These systems enhance the safety of the car, but are fail-safe systems that do not make the car dangerous when the lights go on. Since the lights have gone on and off, there are trouble codes being stored in the control modules. A dealer or brake specialist should be able to read the trouble codes, and diagnose the problem.
