2003 Ford Taurus PATS key programming

i’m going to be receiving my PATS key soon, & then i’ll have it cut somewhere…& then i’ll have to program it (which i’ve never done before).



i do have 2 working keys, but want to program a 3rd in the event i lose one. i do have the instructions, but i’d like to know one thing:



it says to turn the key to “on” (or “run”), but does this mean just clicking the key over, or actually starting the engine? i’m hoping it means just clicking the key over.



i suppose the same goes for programming the remote…?

You just want to turn the key until the lights on the dash come on. Do not turn it far enough to engage the starter.
