My 2003 Chevy Malibu has been creaking/popping in the front right corner whenever I turn (left or right). I finally took it to the repair shop when I also smelled burning rubber. They replaced my alternator, belt and one tensioner. This morning, I noticed the creaking sound and the burning smell again! Any ideas? HELP!!! At this point, I’m $500 in the hole. What else can I expect–or did they do something wrong?
Take it back to the mechanic and let him re-diagnose the problem. I would expect this visit to be free, from the labor standpoint and pay for only parts required. Diagnosis should absolutely be free.
I am not there, but your description sounds like a CV joint to me.
