2002 door stuck shut

So an automotive repair shop could be arrested, as a “den of thieves” because there’s a slim jim in the tool room . . . ?

I would say it depends on the circumstances

In those states you mentioned, I suspect an auto club guy gaining access to a club member’s car . . . on that member’s request, and with the member present . . . would not be arrested

Similarly, I would imagine that the police would NOT raid an automotive repair shop, because somebody spotted a slim jim on the premises

And there are countless other professional level tools, which will gain access to a vehicle. Are they supposedly all burglary tools in some states . . . ?

Better send the law to my house, because I possess those tools, and they’re in my garage. I might make the evening news

No, There are exceptions. Such as being a licensed facility, or emergency responder.
And as I stated, some states have laws governing their use and possession.
I get a mental image of a police raid and confiscating all of the food items. There go the slim jims and donuts.

How would an individual . . . not a licensed repair facility . . . go about legally purchasing a slim jim or some other type of tool which serves the same purpose?

I believe I don’t live in one of those states, since I was able to buy those tools without any questions being asked

If i am arrested for having a slim jim, number one why are they looking through my car, throw me in jail? contact my lawyer, You have got to be kidding, but the again could use 3 squares free health and dental and a lot of time to read books.

“free health” . . . huh?

I imagine it’s not good for your health, if the other guys are trying to beat you up and knock your teeth down your throat, or worse

In any case, my tools are in my garage, so if I AM pulled over, they won’t find anything objectionable

Was that macho man randy savage?

Have you ever had one of those edible slim jims? Pretty tasty. It’s sort of like eating a long peperoni. Definitely not a health food.

Yeh that is randy savage, but If I get arrested for the unlocking mechanism and go to jail, it will most probably be an overnight stay, and probably out less fast than a murderer.A friend of mine ot arrested for sleeping on the beach, spent the night in Dade county jail, among the worst, give your breakfast away to the right person, and all is good.

Where’s Dade county . . . Florida?

Was sleeping on the beach considered vagrancy, or something along those lines?

It’s the kind of snack food that you keep tasting all day long.

Careful what you wish for though. It was kind of a local joke among fed up tax payers a few years ago, that a local inmate wrote letters to the editor complaining about the food at the jail. He complained because he was getting too many chicken dinners that were catered in. I mean that bread and water thing is fake news. People thought the inmates shouldn’t eat any better than they do but really you can get pretty tired of catered food all the time. We changed Sheriffs though and haven’t had any recent complaints but times are better so they probably cater from some of the specialty restaurants now. Still I wouldn’t be very happy on sushi night myself.

Specific ordinance, no sleeping in public http://www.wftv.com/news/local/judge-daytona-beach-ordinance-bans-sleeping-public/287930611

How did we go from a stuck car door to going to jail so quickly? We’d better get it turned around again. In South Dakota they have a heavy Indian population. When I took a tour of the state prison as part of a class project, we were told that late fall their population tended to increase as the weather got cold. There’d be a lot of petty crimes committed that would get them a six month tour in the slammer to take them over the cold winter months. Truth is though a good portion of the homeless now are vets for one reason or another. Followed by teens and those with mental issues. You’d be surprised how many high school kids don’t have a place to go after school. Not an easy problem to deal with.

I don’t know. Possibly the fact of possession in one’s vehicle and not at home or shop would be considered.
I do know that Florida is a state that considers a slim jim a burglary tool.
If you’re concerned about it, call your local police department and ask.

I didn’t mean to ignite a controversy on the legality of a tool.
Let it go please.

I was just curious . . . I have no intention of calling my local police department and asking for further clarification, though

I guess it’s like knowing when to get a lawyer and when not to. As we have discussed before concerning possible drug residue in a car that was purchased, it is smarter to let it go than calling in the police to do a search. It is the job of the police to haul people in and the job of the courts to sort out guilt or innocence. Who needs that? Sometimes its best to just be dumb and go on with your life. Of course if you insist on pushing the mater and you do get arrested, just have the money for a lawyer handy and the name of the bondsman so at least you can get out of jail before the trial. That’s why being right sometimes and proving it can be financially and emotionally ruinous.

I remember a tale in a magazine about a man when there was a murder in his neighborhood he had a very explicit dream about it. He decided to share the dream with the cops. It took a very long time to get him back out of prison, though there was actually no evidence linking him with the murder except his report of the dream.

Interesting story. All those that have never been unjustly accused, raise your hand. Anybody?
