My vehicle has an automatic transmission that is slipping in reverse gear. I have been told that it will not last too much longer and I need a rebuild. Forward gears seem fine. Seeing as the car is 10 years old and has 120,000 miles on it we are not inclined to pay $3,000 out on the vehicle. I have read some good things about transmission additives, namely Lucas Fix and FriktionTek and wonder if they work and if they can cause any damge to vital parts if I try to use.
Questions that come to mind are:
1.Will any engine parts be damaged? If it doesn’t make any difference I would want to sell the vehicle.
2.If I try one make and it doesn’t help can I then try the other?
3.After using can I later change trasmission fluid if that is beneficial. I have been advised to keep used old fluid fluid in transmission. It is 45,000 miles old.
4. Are there any other additives that may work better?
5.Any way to just fix reverse (adjust bands)?
I would apreciate any relevant feedback.
Thank you
