I have a 2001 Saturn L200 that starts most of the time and have narrowed down my car problems to the passlock system. I have tried two different keys, both of which worked in the past for many years and were made at a local hardware store; the original key has long been lost as my father left it on the back of his truck.
Is there a way to bypass this passlock? Or, better yet, have my car stolen for the insurance payout?
Call around and find a good independent mechanic who can disable the Passlock system. It can be done but it takes someone with experience. I have a brother who can disable one of these systems in his sleep…he disabled a bunch of GM fleet vehicles a few years ago. When you mention Passlock to him…his face looks like he just sucked on a lemon. I’ve heard it’s as simple as soldering in a matching resistor but I’ve never tried it myself.
