How in the heck do you change out the alternator in a 2001 Mazda MPV? I have the alternator loose but am unable to get it out. It looks like I will be pulling the front passenger side axle and maybe exhaust system. Let me know if you have other ideas.
How many cylinders does the engine have? Here are some instructions on removing the alternator: http://www.autozone.com/shopping/repairGuide.htm?pageId=0900c15280194753 Someone may know of another way?
Thanks for the info. That helps some. What a pain this thing is. The vehicle was from NY and full of rust. I am breaking bolts left and right. This is not fun!
Here is an answer from www.fixya.com. It’s for a Mazda Tribute. It might be the same. http://www.fixya.com/cars/t599021-replace_alternator
Some Ford (Lincoln, Mercury) badged cars have Mazda engines. I had to replace the alternator on a car which had difficulties of alternator removal which sound very much like yours. It may be the same engine (a 2.5L V6) in the 2002 Mercury Cougar, as in your 2001 Mazda MPV. Check out these instructions and see if some of them apply: http://www.theoldwrench.com/forum/Default.aspx?g=posts&t=207
