2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee - high pitch low volume squeal

the sound is random, inside the cabin, probably comes from in front of the driver. lasts for a few seconds but goes on repeatedly. i found that when i apply the brakes, even a gently tap, the sound goes away, but will return. any thoughts? thanks!

Your wear indicators on the breaks may be working. Their function is to tell you it’s time to get them replaced. Visit your local mechanic, and ask him to solve your squealing issue, with the description you used above.

It is possible, but IMO unlikely, it’s something else. If it is, I would lean towards bearings, but again, your mechanic will be able to best advise you on that.
