I have a 2001 Ford Ranger, 3.0 L V6, that from time to time decides it doesn’t want to start. I have replaced the battery once thinking this may do the trick, but no deal. Now, when I try to start it, the ignition makes a clicking noise and the instrument panel flickers along with the dome light. The truck does start with a jump though. Anyone have any ideas as to what the fix could be?
My first suspect would be the solenoid or the the entire starter is the culprit.
Try cleaning the battery posts and connections. The problem you describe is a classic symtom of dirty connections.
