My Passat has the check engine light come on with the words, Emissions workshop. Husband works at Autozone, so we shut off light. No sulfur smell in car. I found out online that there was a: SERVICE BULLRTIN FOR/see below:
Component Description:
7. ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CATALYTIC CONVERTOR Bulletin Number: 0513
Bulletin Date: Jul 2005
Vehicle: 2,000 Volkswagen Passat
Summary:UPDATE PROGRAMMING FOR CATALYTIC CONVERTER SYSTEM. ( NHTSA ITEM NUMBER - 10016097
IT SEEMS TO ME, IF I TAKE THE CAR TO VW, THEY MAY SAY THE COMPUTER IS RIGHT. HOW DO I FIND OUT IF THIS SERVICE CHECK ON THE COMPUTER WILL KEEP THE ENGINE LIGHT OFF. ALSO, CAN SOMEONE OTHER THAN VW DO THIS REPROGRAMING?
Did Husband read an error code? Looks like P0123 etc.
Can’t hurt to just talk to the dealer.
Chances are you can find someone with a VAGCOM or newer VW code reader and they can reset the light, but if the reason the light came on still exist, the light will and SHOULD come back.
Sorry I don’t know a thing about that service bulletin.
Get the codes read, you likely will not even need a VW specific reader for that. It should be in the format [P1234] Post the results back here and maybe we can help.
