engine dies when shifting to drive
Shifting from N or P to D places add’l load on the engine. If engine not running correctly, shifting to D then could easily stall engine. Is engine running well otherwise? Does this happen only when engine cold? Does turning on AC cause same problem?
If your engine has an idle air control valve, it may be faulty.
