2000 Dodge Dakota 4x4 Magnum 6, Whine in front end while in 4 wheel drive

I have a 2000 Dodge Dokata 4x4 with a Magnum v6. It has 155k for miles. Recently I had occasion to put it in 4 wheel drive (first snow) and I noticed that there is a whine, almost sounds like a wheel bearing, coming from the front end after I let off the gas.

The truck will accelerate fine but if I let off the accelerator and coast the whine comes in. This only happens in 4 wheel drive there is no whine when I am in 2.

Other side note, I just had the rear-end replaced about 2 months ago, not sure if this would affect any thing.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You probably notice the whine when you are coasting because of the reduced engine noise. I think you are right about the wheel bearings.

You need to check your front differential fluid and top off as necessary. I think you have ring/pinion gear whine.

Have you used this rig in 4wd before?

Yes used it all last year and the year before. This is the first time I have used it this year.

Thanks for the responses.
