2.4 2013 buick timing issue

Try reading through this, lot of info… the cam phase looks off from yours (or yours from it)… Hope it helps some…

Yes it looks like the exhaust phaser key is wrong even though the timing mark is set at proper place. I have not researched how the internal works on the phaser gear. Could that being off internal cause this you think? I had it running first time I tore it down. Then I got 017 code and researched said if you didn’t replace the gears could be the cause. I stupidly threw the old gears out and didn’t compare them. I have not been able to get it to start since.

If you got them off ebay or someplace like that, then they could be made wrong… Again, I would read through that last post and might even get dealer parts…
BTW, I don’t even throw away old spark plugs until I know the vehicle is running again… lol…

I agree never throwing parts out again until car running. First set was from Amazon second set was from O’Reilly.

Maybe the sprockets fit your engine ok, but not originally designed for your engine, and the timing marks are in a different location w/respect to the keyways. Probably your best bet is to remove the two camshaft sprockets (gears) and compare them with a few other sets, take them to a dealership, to a parts store, compare yours to theirs. Might also be able extract oem-design sprockets (for comparison) from a wrecked same-year car w/same engine at a pick n pull type of place.

The ddm link above shows the timing chain having colored links to aid in setting the timing, but I don’t see those colored links in your photos. Is that b/c the color has disappeared, washed away from your prior running the engine (before you installed new sprockets)?

Sorry you are having this difficulty. On a positive note, good learning experience anyway.

Everyone is trying to be helpful but now we are into getting another set maybe from a more reliable source and starting all over again. I remember paying $500 for the timing belt on my sons Acura. And I need to schedule my own fir about $2000… still it’ll be back on the road in one day. Something to be said is all. At this point if it were me I’d tow it to a shop.

when you had the timing chain off did you see any colored links? Can you see any now? They are supposed to line up with the timing marks on your sprockets. Do you have the timing chain on backwards?

You redid head. And left pistons alone. So, you assume all is well with bottom end. 2.4 motor is known for issues. Timing chains and so on.
