When starting my 1997 Oldsmobile Aurora there is a grinding noise and a smell of burning oil. What could be the cause and how do I fit the problem?
A mechanic is going to have to look at your starter after removing it. It may be completely worn out. It could need shims but it will have to be seen.
If its the starter, good luck. It is located under the intake manifold and requires quite a bit of disassembly to get at it. Do you mean it makes a grinding sound while the starter motor is running?
