Please define “bad”.
Depending on the truck’s configuration, it has an EPA rating of anywhere from 16-20 mpg, but that rating is based on moderate temperatures. If you have had frigid temps lately, your mileage would likely take a major hit.

Remove the vacuum hose from the fuel pressure regulator.

If gas leaks from this connection, the diaphragm in the regulator has ruptured and needs to be replaced.

In addition to what everyone else has said, the truck is 25 years old and probably has plenty of deferred maintenance.

And, it could have low compression and/or a whole heap of other mechanical problems.
