1996 Satuen SL1

Hi, I have a 1996 Saturn SL1(single). Everything works fine, except when the temperature is below freezing, the car starts then suddenly turns off. The only way the car will stay running is if I hit the gas for a minute or two. What’s up with that?

The problem might be with the Idle Air Control valve. This device is what controls the engine idle speed, or anytime the accelerator isn’t depressed. Sometimes these IAC valves can be effected by the temperature where they fail to go to the proper position for the idle condition. So in order to prevent the engine from stalling the accelerator needs to be applied.
