My old Ford truck’s ignition and steering lock won’t budge. I’ve tried moving the wheel side to side (as far as it will go which is not far) while trying to turn the key. No luck. It’s stuck in the 'Lock" position. I even got the spare key (which is less worn) thinking maybe the old key wasn’t positioning the tumbler pins correctly anymore. That wasn’t it. It’s an automatic transmission, and it’s in “Park”. Jiggling the transmission lever didn’t help either.
Any ideas on what I can try short of buying a steering wheel puller and taking everything apart? This was sudden. It worked fine yesterday.
Mobile Locksmiths get about $100 to fix stuff like this…Maybe $150…
Or, locate a large square shanked screwdriver and with a large hammer, drive it into the lock. Use a large Crescent wrench to force the lock. Work it back and forth and it will loosen up…The method you choose depends on how much value you place in the truck…
I would not attempt a column tear-down unless you have done this before…
