08 Prius . Vsc. Abs. Brake light came on?

08 Prius. Had brake/caliper work done on the left tire about a month ago
Driving around today I notice kind of a metallic clumping noise when braking coming to a stop from the RIGHT tire.

After driving in the free way, my brake, abs, vsc lights came on. Is this relevant to the work done? I don’t even know where to start looking

Ps. The clunking noise was repeatable for a duration and then its not that noticeable or any at all

Start looking on the right side where that clump noise comes from.

Given the error lights, I’d guess you have a bad wheel bearing causing a poor wheel speed signal and creating those error lights… likely right rear… All of those errors would light with a bad wheel speed sensor.

Does this still stand if the clunking was from the front right? @Mustangman

I the the primary brake warning light turns on, the ABS and VSC lights will automatically turn on.

That’s because these systems won’t function if there’s a problem with primary brake system.

First thing to check is if the brake fluid is low causing the primary brake warning light to turn on.

Have the brake system inspected to see if it can be determined what is causing the noise when braking.

Yes it can be

Generally the both left and right front brake pads wear about the same amount over their life, so I am wondering what brake and caliper work you had done to the left (front?) side only??

But unless you are gonna work on it yourself, I would take it, maybe even tow it, right back to the mechanics shop…

Thank you. Does this have any correlation to the brake/caliper work done I had about 3 weeks ago? Will they check it out? And hopefully I can still drive it?

I only did the left because the left tire was getting really hot due to dragging caliper. Is it really not drivable??

I can’t say if it’s related to the repairs that were performed recently’.

That’s why I suggested having the vehicle inspected.

Don’t know, have not been able to inspect it to determine the issue, but IF it is brake related then at a minimum it only needs to be driving slowly and straight to a shop until the issue has been properly diagnosed, remember if your brakes fail to stop your vehicle, something else will… If it feels unsafe (nobody on here has driven it so we don’t really know) then tow it, better to be safe then sorry… Main thing is have it checked out by a pro ASAP, unless you have the proper and safe tools to properly jack the vehicle up and put it on jack stands and pull the wheel(s) to locate the issue…

PS, as a general rule of thumb, whatever you do to one side of the brakes (front or back), you do to the other side as they have equal amount of use…

Be sure whoever is working on the car understands how the braking system on your Prius works. Remember, just because you are pressing on the brake pedal doesn’t mean you are applying the brakes.
