04 Mercury Sable LS Premium

Hi my name is Melissa. I have a 2004 Mercury sable LS premium, DOHC engine, 3.0, V6. I was driving home the other day and the car just completely shut off. I have confirmed I have good fuel pressure, it has no spark, the crank fuel is disabled, but my computer says crank shaft sensor has no fault. Although I know it can still have a fault even if my computer doesn’t read one, and I don’t think it is the alarm system that caused crank fuel disconnect because when I turn the key the alarm is not flashing at all. Any ideas, thoughts, advice on what to check next?

A crankshaft position sensor doesn’t always turn the Check Light on and set a code when it fails.

So, don’t rule that out.

Does this engine have a timing chain or a timing belt? If timing belt, has it been changed in schedule?

Does the engine have enough oil? Wondering if the engine ran out of oil and locked up.

Timing chain according to Gates

with a fuel pressure gauge?

And the pressure is within factory specs?

have you confirmed spark?

Turn the key on without starting the engine. The Check Engine light should come on.
Crank the engine over while watching the Check Engine light. It should go out when the engine is cranking. If it stays on while the engine is cranking you probably have a bad crankshaft sensor.
