I have a 2002 Honda Odyssey. I have never had any major issues with it. It is at 109k miles right now. However yesterday, my wife was in the process of pulling the van our of our driveway, and when she shifted from park to reverse, the engine died a second later. Then she shifted back to park, started up the engine successfully again, and then shifted over to drive and the engine died a second later.
When I got home I repeated the same process and had the same results. I even let the engine run for 10 minutes before attempting it again, and yet the same thing happened.
I called my local Honda Service Shop and they said they were unaware as to the cause.
I appreciate any advice. Thank you!
Start the engine. With your left foot firmly pressing on the brake pedal, shift into gear and then slightly step on the gas pedal. If doing this prevents the engine from stalling, there’s a problem in the idle air control circuit.

so as I read it, everytime you put your transmission in a moving gear, the engine dies. Is there any feeling that the transmission engages before the engine dies? Does the car jerk or try to move first? Will the car move with the engine off and the tranny in gear? Or does the tanny lock up the drive wheels.
Hey kgilmo01, what did you find out was the problem?
