I HAVE A 1992 DODGE DAYTONA 3.0 LITER
AUTOMATIC TRANS. WHEN PUT IN DRIVE THE CAR
WILL NOT SHIFT ITSELF UP. I HAVE CHECKED
THE TRANS. FLUID WHICH SEEMS TO BE OK.ARE THESE TRANS.ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED?
MAYBE I NEED A NEW SWITCH OR SENSOR?
WHAT ARE YOUR THOUGHTS?
If this is a 4 speed trans, it will be electronic. Its entirely possible that the trans has defaulted to 3rd gear limp mode. I would scan it first…

Not sure about that year truck, but newer model transmissions have a computer similiar to the main PCM. If the transmission ‘computer’ doesn’t know the transmission is in third gear, it probably will not upshift. I remember reading about something called an “inhibitor switch” that was related to this sort of thing.
