Wobbling Steering Wheel

I have a 2008 Malibu LT and my steering wheel has recently began to “wobble” even when I’m idle. I can be completely stopped and it just starts this “wobbling” and then it will stop. It does it when I’m driving too, at any rate of speed. I just had the car serviced with an oil change, tire rotation and balance, etc.

The solution is spelled w-a-r-r-a-n-t-y.

Make an appt with the dealership a.s.a.p., as this could be a safety-related defect.
It is not your responsibility to provide them with a diagnosis, and in fact, they cannot use your diagnosis as the basis for repair.

They are required to go through a standardized diagnostic protocol on all warranty-related repairs, and EVERYTHING on your car is covered by warranty at this point. Read the details on all of your warranties (you have several) and take comfort in the reality that you will not have to pay for this repair.

Thank you! I have an appt. scheduled in the AM. I’ll post the results!

I will be interested in seeing the outcome. If this model has conventional hydraulic power steering, I believe that the power steering pump is at fault. If it is equipped with electronic power steering, it will probably turn out to be related to a bad sensor or a bad electric motor. Malibus can have either system, depending upon which engine the car has.
