Will I need to pull engine to see timing chain on Rav4

Do you need to take the engine out to remove the timing chain cover on a 2003 Rav4? I’m trying to look at the marks. There’s not a lot on youtube. Thanks

It’s a transverse mounted engine. It depends on how tight it is. But if they can remove the serpentine belt and water-pump without removing the engine, then you should be able to get to the chain without removing the engine.

You can check the camshaft ting by removing the valve cover, the cam gears and timing marks are visible with the valve cover off.
